Rachel M. Brian, MPH

Director of Research Operations
Rachel M. Brian, MPH, is the Director of Research Operations for the SPIRIT Center. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Michigan State University.
With over two decades of experience, Rachel has led research and intervention development at Dartmouth College, the University of Michigan, Johnson & Johnson, Michigan State University, and the University of Washington.
Rachel has successfully united multidisciplinary teams to create and evaluate technologies for individuals with serious mental illness and has served as the Project Director on nine R01s. Rachel applies user-centered design and qualitative methods to enhance the user experience of mobile applications and websites.
Notable projects include:
- Mobile sensing technologies to predict early relapse and monitor violent ideation among inpatients
- Self-help smartphone applications for symptom management
- Statewide implementation of technology-based systems
- National recruitment for voice-hearers
Additionally, Rachel has developed health behavior change programs for major insurance companies and evaluated educational programs for Flint, Michigan public schools.
