Our ACT Training Team
The SPIRIT Center’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) training program, under the direction of Maria Monroe-DeVita, PhD, hosts a team of mental health professionals able to provide expert training and consultation in various evidence-based practices within ACT. These trainings are available at the asking, free of charge for ACT teams in Washington state, though out of state teams are welcome to reach out with questions about training availability.
TRAINING TEAM & TOPICS:
- Michelle McDonald-Lopez, LMHC – Michelle is a licensed mental health counselor with years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness, including in inpatient and outpatient settings, in jail settings, and as a team leader for a WA ACT team. Michelle provides training on the following for the SPIRIT lab:
- Quarterly training for new ACT team members (and, as needed, personalized training for entire new ACT teams)
- Coordinates the network of ACT team leaders in the state of Washington with Andre Stickney and Tatiana Barton
- Team Leader Training including orientation to the TMACT
- Documentation Training (this is done individually with teams)
- Yearly Treatment Planning Training/Workshop
- Enhanced Illness Management and Recovery
- Individual Consultation
- Jeffery Roskelley, LICSW – Jeff is a licensed clinical social worker with years of experience providing psychotherapy and co-occurring disorders treatment in a variety of settings, including on an ACT team. He provides training in the following areas:
- ACT Comprehensive Assessment
- Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment (IDDT) for clients struggling with serious mental illness and substance use
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis, or CBTp
- Andre Stickney – Andre holds a master’s degree in counseling and has over a decade of experience providing direct services in community mental health settings serving individuals with serious mental illness. His experience includes being a team lead on a WA PACT and New Journeys FEP team as well mobile crisis and co-responder with Clark County Police Department. He provides training and consultation on the following for SPIRIT lab:
- ACT Comprehensive Assessment
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis or CBTp
- Enhanced Illness Management and Recovery (EIMR)
- Family Education and Support
- Coordinates the network of ACT team leaders in the state of Washington with Michelle McDonald-Lopez and Tatiana Barton
- Team Leader Training including orientation to the TMACT
- Individual Consultation
- Tatiana Barton – Tatiana holds a master’s degree in counseling and has years of experience working in community mental health settings. She worked with clients with severe and persistent mental illness, which led her to transition from a PACT mental health clinician to PACT Team Lead, involved with the start-up and organization of a new PACT team, to her current role as a Continuing Education Specialist. She provides training and consultation on the following for SPIRIT lab:
- Quarterly training for new ACT team members (and, as needed, personalized training for entire new ACT teams)
- Coordinates the network of ACT team leaders in the state of Washington with Andre Stickney and Michelle McDonald-Lopez
- Team Leader Training including orientation to the TMACT
- Documentation Training (this is done individually with teams)
- Yearly Treatment Planning Training/Workshop
- Individual Consultation
- Christine Powers – Christine is dually licensed as an independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and Master Alcohol and Drug Counselor (MLADC) with a MINT credential whose focus is consultation and training for evidence-based practices (EBPs), such as ACT. Christine has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, including clinical roles within a start-up youth ACT team. Christine is a National ACT Trainer for the SPIRIT Lab. She provides training in the following areas:
- Start-up Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) training (nationally)
- Motivational Interviewing for ACT teams (nationally & WA PACT teams)
- Individual Placement & Support – IPS, SEE (nationally & WA PACT teams)
- Enhanced Illness Management & Recovery, E-IMR (nationally)
- Juli Templeton – Juli Templeton holds a master’s degree in nursing education, is a certified mental health professional in Oregon, and is a tobacco treatment specialist. Juli has over four years of experience working in community mental health settings with individuals facing severe and persistent mental illness on the Assertive Community Treatment team in Columbia County, Oregon, and an additional year working as the Nurse Statewide Trainer for the Oregon Center for Excellence in Assertive Community Treatment (OCEACT). She was responsible for developing training materials and providing training to support ACT nurses in their positions for a year.
- PACT Nurse trainer (Orientation and consultation)
- Motivational Interviewing for PACT teams (cofacilitator)
- Coordinates the network of ACT nurses in the state of Washington
- Provides training for health promotion
- Jacob Hackman – Jacob is a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) whose focus is peer support consultation and training, including for ACT and New Journeys teams in Washington. Jacob has worked in community mental health and Mental Health Courts, providing national consulting on peer topics in that area. Jacob is an ACT Trainer for the SPIRIT Lab. He provides training in the following areas:
- Enhanced Illness Management & Recovery, (E-IMR)
- Peer Support Orientation
- Supervising Peer Supports
- Julia Marriott – Julia holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology and joined the SPIRIT Center as a Research Coordinator, primarily working with Dr. Maria Monroe-DeVita in supporting the Programs of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT). Before joining the SPIRIT Center, she worked as a research assistant at the University of California, Davis, in the Development of Externalizing and Self-Control lab studying young children’s and parents’ self-regulation, mental health, and resilience.
